Purpose and Scope of this Document

This page is intended to provide guidance and references to KaaS platform users, project teams, and stakeholders who are looking to utilize the KaaS platform, including first-time users interested to gain hands-on experience with Confluent Cloud.

Prerequisites

  • Must be onboarded to Novo Nordisk with credentials and access to NN systems.
  • General access to Azure DevOps, otherwise request in NovoAccess for the entitlement called "AzureDevOps : Basic".
  • Note:If you signed up for a trial account in Confluent Cloud, you can use only one email login type; just log in with your account, go to 'Accounts & Access,' select your account, click ‘Leave this organization,’ and then request a role in novoAccess.

Cost and Resources

  • Currently, there are no costs for KaaS usage as the platform team covers all license fees. A chargeback model will be implemented in the future, but license costs will stay within the platform team's budget.
  • Implementing Kafka can be challenging and costly. Initial implementation and excess capacity are centrally funded, but teams/projects using KaaS will incur associated costs.

Getting Started with KaaS

To quickly get started with data/event streaming for proofs of concept (POCs) or preliminary explorations, use Playground Environment in the Prod Org, which is provisioned using a DEV cluster (dev_eu1_cluster_0/dev_eu1_public_default) in DEV environment.

Please raise the relevant accesses via NovoAccess as per the role setup mentioned below.

Roles Setup

KaaS operates on dedicated Kafka clusters with four separate environments (Dev, Test, QA, Production). As a user, you will be part of a (domain) 'team' where access to resources can be controlled within and across environments.

Role for Playground User for POCs:

Role Description
KaaS_Playground_User Read and write access to the namespace kaas_pg in the DEV environment;
Read, deploy, and manage connectors in the UI (dev only)

Roles per Team/Namespace:

Role Description
KaaS_team_Operator_ADM Read and write access to team configuration and data;
Read, deploy, and manage connectors in all environments
KaaS_team_Supporter Read access; can view data.
KaaS_team_Developer Read access; can view data in dev, test, and QA environments, with write access to data in dev;
Read, deploy, and manage connectors in DEV and TST;
Read Access for Connector in QA and PRD
